Why use SMDownloader

  • Post URLs only. Paste a public post link with /post/ in the path. Profile-only bsky.app URLs are rejected — open the post with the video and copy that link.
  • No Bluesky login. Public links only. SMDownloader never asks for your Bluesky password or stores finished downloads on our servers.
  • MP4 for videos. Video posts return downloadable MP4 files converted from Bluesky's public HLS streams at the best quality available for that post.
  • Server-side resolution. SMDownloader resolves Bluesky video via /api/extract on our servers. Most public bsky.app post links return a preview in seconds — save when you have rights to keep the clip.

Supported link formats

Profile-only URLs (bsky.app/profile/handle without /post/…) are not supported — paste a direct post link from Share → Copy link.

Text-only posts and video-less image posts will not return a file on this page. Only save content you own or have permission to download.

Where files save

After you confirm a save, the file goes to your browser's default download location — usually Downloads on desktop or your photo gallery on mobile. SMDownloader does not host or email files.

Limits

What links will not work

  • Bypass private accounts, close-friends stories, or login-only posts.
  • Bulk-scrape entire profiles, hashtags, or channels automatically.
  • Promise universal no-watermark, 4K, or DRM-free output when the source does not expose it.

Common questions

How do I download a Bluesky video?

Copy Share → Copy link on a public post with video, paste the bsky.app/profile/…/post/… URL above, click Download, preview the MP4, then save through your browser. Works on iPhone, Android, and desktop when the post is public.

Is this a bluesky video downloader?

Yes — paste one public post URL with video at a time. SMDownloader resolves the MP4 via /api/extract on our servers and returns whatever video Bluesky exposes for that link.

Do bsky.app post links work?

Yes. Paste the link exactly as copied — e.g. bsky.app/profile/handle/post/ID — and SMDownloader fetches the public media via /api/extract before you save.

Do Bluesky profile URLs work?

No. Profile-only URLs without /post/ in the path are not supported. Open the specific post with the video, copy that Share link, and paste it here.

Can I download private Bluesky videos?

No. If the post needs a login to view — or comes from a blocked account — our servers cannot fetch the file either.

Why did my Bluesky video link fail?

Common causes: text-only posts, image-only posts on the video tool, profile URLs, private or deleted posts, or an incomplete URL. Confirm the post opens in an incognito window and paste the full Share → Copy link, then retry once.

Where do Bluesky video downloads go on my phone?

On iPhone, saved videos usually land in Photos after you tap Save from the preview. On Android, check the Downloads folder or Files app.

Is the Bluesky video downloader free?

Yes. SMDownloader is free and does not require an account. Paste any public bsky.app post URL with video and preview the MP4 before saving.

SMDownloader is not affiliated with Bluesky. Only download public content you have rights to save. See the Bluesky downloader overview for all supported URL shapes.
