Privacy Policy

SMDownloader does not host, store, archive, publish, or redistribute third-party media. The service performs temporary, user-directed processing only for the purpose of responding to the user's request.

Summary

• No accounts or login are required.
• We do not permanently store videos, images, or other media you request.
• SMDownloader does not maintain its own database of submitted URLs, IP addresses, or user-agent strings for routine downloads.
• SMDownloader is a website only — we do not install software on your device and we do not access your browser bookmarks, extensions, plugins, or browsing history.
• Limited technical data may be processed by monitoring and analytics providers as described below.

What we process when you download

When you paste a URL and click Download, your browser sends that URL to our extract API. The application processes the request in memory, fetches media from the upstream platform when needed, and returns download links. The submitted URL is not written to a first-party request log by the application.

Media may be streamed through our proxy endpoint for your browser. This is a transient pass-through — we do not build a public media library or "recent downloads" list.

Error monitoring (Sentry)

When an extract request fails in certain ways, we may send a diagnostic event to Sentry (if configured). These events include the platform name, error code, and a sanitized reference to the source URL — hostname and path type only, not the full URL. Default PII collection is disabled in our Sentry configuration. Retention follows your Sentry project settings (typically up to 90 days on standard plans).

Analytics (Google Analytics)

When enabled, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage (page views, general traffic patterns). Google's retention and privacy terms apply. We do not send submitted download URLs to Google Analytics from our application code.

Local storage in your browser

On your first download attempt, we may ask you to confirm you have rights to the content. If you agree, we store a small consent record in localStorage (acceptance flag, timestamp, and terms version) so we do not show the prompt on every visit. You can clear this by removing site data in your browser.

Retention overview

• User media: not retained after your request completes.
• Sentry error events: per Sentry project settings (typically ~90 days).
• Google Analytics: per Google's configured retention.
• Copyright and abuse correspondence: retained as needed to respond to notices (typically 1–3 years).

Your choices

You can use browser controls to block cookies, clear local storage, or install analytics opt-out extensions. Because the service has no accounts, we cannot look up or delete a profile for you — there is none to delete.
