SMDownloader does not host, store, archive, publish, or redistribute third-party media. The service performs temporary, user-directed processing only for the purpose of responding to the user's request.
What happens when you click Download
The Download button starts a temporary retrieval of public media from the linked platform so you can preview it in your browser. That step does not save a permanent copy on our servers. When you choose to keep the file, your browser saves it locally — the same as any normal web download.
Your browser sends the URL you pasted. We resolve the public post, fetch media when needed, and stream bytes back for preview and save. We do not build a public gallery, recent-downloads list, or searchable archive of user links.
Public links only
SMDownloader works with openly viewable posts. Login-walled, friends-only, private-group, or age-gated content that requires your session cannot be retrieved. See private or login-walled links for how to check visibility before you paste.
Rate limits and availability
Heavy automated use, repeated failures, or unusual traffic patterns may be throttled to protect service stability. Social platforms also change APIs and layouts without notice — a link that worked yesterday may fail after a platform update. Check the changelog for coverage notes.
What we do not do
- No accounts, passwords, or OAuth logins to third-party networks.
- No browser extension or helper app that reads your browsing history.
- No permanent storage of videos, images, or audio you request.
- No resale or licensing of user-submitted URLs.
Third-party services
Limited technical logging may go to error monitoring (Sentry) and analytics (Google Analytics) when enabled. Details are in our Privacy Policy. We do not send full pasted URLs to analytics from application code.
