Why use SMDownloader

  • Post URLs only. Paste a public post link with /post/ in the path. Profile-only bsky.app URLs are rejected — open the post with the photos and copy that link.
  • Carousels supported. Multi-image posts return Image 1, Image 2, and so on in the preview — save each file individually from one pasted post URL.
  • Full CDN resolution. We pull full-size image files from Bluesky's public CDN — not the low-res thumbnails shown in the feed.
  • Server-side resolution. SMDownloader resolves Bluesky images via /api/extract on our servers. Most public bsky.app post links return a preview in seconds.

Supported link formats

Profile-only URLs (bsky.app/profile/handle without /post/…) are not supported — paste a direct post link from Share → Copy link.

Animated GIF posts are handled on the GIF downloader page. Video-only posts belong on the video tool. Only save content you own or have permission to download.

Where files save

After you confirm a save, the file goes to your browser's default download location — usually Downloads on desktop or your photo gallery on mobile. SMDownloader does not host or email files.

Limits

What links will not work

  • Bypass private accounts, close-friends stories, or login-only posts.
  • Bulk-scrape entire profiles, hashtags, or channels automatically.
  • Promise universal no-watermark, 4K, or DRM-free output when the source does not expose it.

Common questions

How do I download Bluesky images?

Copy Share → Copy link on a public post with photos, paste the bsky.app/profile/…/post/… URL above, click Download, preview each image, then save individually through your browser.

Is this a bluesky image downloader?

Yes — paste one public post URL with images at a time. SMDownloader resolves each photo via /api/extract on our servers and returns whatever images Bluesky exposes for that link.

Do bsky.app post links work?

Yes. Paste the link exactly as copied — e.g. bsky.app/profile/handle/post/ID — and SMDownloader fetches the public images via /api/extract before you save.

Do Bluesky profile URLs work?

No. Profile-only URLs without /post/ in the path are not supported. Open the specific post with the images, copy that Share link, and paste it here.

Can I download carousel images from one link?

Yes. Multi-image Bluesky posts use a single post URL. Paste that link here and we list every still image via /api/extract on our servers — save each from the preview.

Why did my Bluesky image link fail?

Common causes: video-only posts on the image tool, GIF posts on this page, text-only posts, profile URLs, private or deleted posts, or an incomplete URL. Paste the full Share → Copy link from a public post with photos.

Are animated GIFs supported here?

No — animated GIF posts are filtered out on this page. Use the Bluesky GIF Downloader for posts with animated GIF attachments.

Is the Bluesky image downloader free?

Yes. SMDownloader is free and does not require an account. Paste any public bsky.app post URL with photos and preview each image before saving.

SMDownloader is not affiliated with Bluesky. Only download public content you have rights to save. See the Bluesky downloader overview for all supported URL shapes.
