SMDownloader returns the highest quality the public post exposes — not a remastered 4K file. Platforms often cap resolution for web playback or strip separate audio tracks.

GIFs and stickers save as video
Animated GIFs on X and similar networks are delivered as MP4 files. The preview on SMDownloader may label them as video even when they looked like GIFs in the app.

Instagram carousels and SoundCloud playlists show one entry per slide or track after you click Download on SMDownloader. Save each file you need — there is no single ZIP download.

Common questions
Why is the downloaded quality lower than in the app?
We return the best quality the public post exposes. Platforms often cap web playback resolution or bundle audio inside a video file — SMDownloader cannot invent pixels that were not in the public stream.
Why is the video blurry?
The platform may only expose a lower rung on its CDN ladder for that post. Preview on SMDownloader shows what our servers can fetch — we do not upscale or remaster files.
I wanted audio only — why did I get video?
Some posts bundle audio inside the video file. When a platform exposes a separate audio stream, use the dedicated audio downloader on the Instagram or format tool page.
Why do GIFs save as MP4 files?
X and other networks serve animated GIFs as MP4 video. The preview on SMDownloader labels them as video — that is expected and matches what the platform exposes for download.
How do carousels and playlists appear in the preview?

Can SMDownloader remove watermarks or boost resolution?
No. We return the best available quality from the public post. We do not remove TikTok or Facebook watermarks, upscale video, or convert to a higher bitrate than the platform exposes.
