What is SMDownloader?

SMDownloader is a free browser tool for saving public social media posts. Paste a public social link to preview and save videos, reels, Shorts, images, and audio. No app. No account.

What does the Download button do?

The Download button starts a temporary retrieval of public media from the linked platform so you can preview it in your browser. That step does not save a permanent copy on our servers. When you choose to keep the file, your browser saves it locally — the same as any normal web download.

Is SMDownloader affiliated with social platforms?

No. SMDownloader is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, X, Douyin, SoundCloud, or any other platform. See our Platform Disclaimer for details.

Does SMDownloader store videos?

No. SMDownloader does not host, store, archive, or publish third-party media. Processing is temporary and user-initiated — we fetch and stream media back to you without retaining a permanent copy.

Can I download any public video?

No. Public availability does not mean you have legal permission to download or reuse content. You must own the content or have permission from the rights holder.

Who is responsible for downloaded content?

You are solely responsible for every URL you submit and for how you use downloaded files.

Can copyright owners request blocking?

Yes. Copyright owners can send notices to copyright@smdownloader.com. We may block specific URLs, domains, or platforms in response to valid complaints.

Do I need an account?

No account or login is required. Paste a public link and click Download.

Where downloaded files save

Find your video, image, or audio after you confirm a save — by device.

Preview first, save second
Click Download on the homepage to load a preview. When you confirm save, your browser — not SMDownloader — writes the file to your device. We do not email attachments or host a downloads inbox.

iPhone and iPad
Videos and images usually land in Photos after you tap Save or Download in Safari. If prompted, allow the download. Check the Downloads list in Safari (address bar icon) for files still in transit.

Android phones and tablets
Chrome and Samsung Internet typically save to the Downloads folder or Movies. Open Files or Gallery and sort by date if you do not see the item immediately.

Desktop browsers
Files go to your browser's default download folder — often Downloads on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Use the browser's download manager (Ctrl+J or Cmd+Shift+J) to reveal the path.

If the preview worked but you cannot find the file, check browser permissions for Photos or storage. For failed previews, start with link won't download.

Common questions

Can I change where files go?

Yes — use your browser or operating system download settings. SMDownloader does not override your device preferences.

Does SMDownloader keep a copy on its servers?

After you confirm a save, the file goes to your browser's default download location — usually Downloads on desktop or your photo gallery on mobile. SMDownloader does not host or email files.
